mac prep + prime cc colour correct

I have an exciting beauty discovery! While I was browsing my Bloglovin' newsfeed, I found an article from Temptalia about a new line that is being released from MAC Cosmetics! They are now developing the release of their Prep + Prime CC Colour Correct Collection, a concept that is taking face products to a new level. I am really looking forwards to this collection and based on the information that Temptalia has collected, these new products are really worth a shot!

The innovation behind this line is the use of colored face makeup that is targeted towards diminishing specific issues with your skin. The line contains three different products, a CC cream, a CC pressed powder, and a CC loose powder. Though I have seen some beauty brands releasing CC creams and powders, a loose powder is very intriguing and a new development for this type of cosmetic. However, the main selling point of these products (in my opinion at least) and what makes them stand out drastically is the shades. There are four different colors:

Peachy Beige- to adjust the skin tone
Yellow- to neutralize the skin's redness
Lavender- to illuminate the skin
Apricot- to recharge dehydrated skin

All of these products seem like they have great benefits, but I am curious to see how the pigmentation of the product turns out to be like. These products claim to be "broad spectrum" but I wonder how to colors will adapt to the skin. I think that the lavender is the least to be worried about, but the peachy beige, yellow and apricot are all similar to skin colors and could potentially change the tone of your skin.

While these things are all to be determined after testing the products, the ad campaign for the products has me in high hopes. It is absolutely stunning and I know that these will definitely be something that I am going to try out this coming year!

If any of you hear more information about the line or there are more updates before the products are launched this coming spring, let me know in the comments below or tweet me @stylenativeblog!

closet confidential tag

I have decided that today was a good day to post a fashion-related tag, so I have searched YouTube and chosen the Closet Confidential Tag! This tag is only six questions long and was made by Fleur of the channel FleurDeForce. As I am looking at the questions now I realize that they are going to be very difficult for me to answer, but I am going to try my best and hope you enjoy it!

The Closet Confidential Tag

1. What is the oldest item in your wardrobe/closet?
The oldest item in my wardrobe would have to be a blue sweater I own from the brand So Blue by Sigrid Olsen. It is one of the only items in my wardrobe that I know is considerably old because my mom had it for a while before she gave it to me, and it was a size large so it still looks like a pretty oversized sweater! I love the material that it was knitted with because it is really cute, but extremely comfortable!

2. What is the newest item?
I have two items in my wardrobe that were the most recently purchased. They are a pair of black workout leggings and a light grey turtleneck sweater from Forever 21. The sweater is pretty soft and simple, but the workout leggings are amazing. They have two mesh pockets on the sides to store a cell phone or other item and make your legs look really great!

3. What is the most expensive item?
The most expensive item in my wardrobe is a black and aqua dress that I bought at LF. It is from the brand RenĂ©e London and I think it cost a little more than 200 dollars. I haven't worn it for a while because it is a body con dress that could be worn to parties, but when I wore it to the special occasion that I originally bought it for, it was absolutely stunning (and totally worth every penny!).

4. What is the cheapest/most affordable item that you wear/use a lot?
The cheapest item in my wardrobe is a black t-shirt with a faux pocket. I bought it while I was in Italy for 3 euros (around $4) and it has lasted a really long time! I still wear it often because it is very comfortable and matches with almost everything I own.

5. What was the biggest bargain?
I am lucky enough to have gotten many bargains on clothing in my lifetime, but one of my best was at LF. They have a semi-annual sale and I got a really cool jean jacket with army print sleeves. It cost around $150 but I think I bought it for about $30. It was a total steal and I wear it all the time! LF may seem really overpriced, but when you go for the sale there is a total guarantee that you will leave having scored a great deal.

6. What was the biggest waste of money?!
An item in my closet that was the biggest waste of money was a pair of JuJu Babe Sandals. I love them to death and think that they are an extremely beautiful pair of shoes, but (as much as I hate to admit it) I think they are poorly designed. They are kind of floppy when you wear them and your feet slide around when it is hot outside. I will probably still continue to wear them but I don't know if I will ever buy another pair.

ootd: cakes and cream

Today seems like it is going to be a lovely day, and I wanted to start it out right with a new outfit of the day post! I am working on some other blog posts right now as well, so there is a queue of new posts to read coming up soon! Anyways, I really wanted to post this outfit on my blog because I love it and I wanted to showcase my new beautiful pants. I apologize for the quality of the photos because they are slightly grainy from my iPhone. I couldn't find anyone to photograph me so I was forced to revert to selfies. I hope you like it!

Black Chain Necklace- Forever 21
Cream Cable Knit Sweater- Forever 21
Black Floral/Brocade Pants- Topshop
Burgundy Ankle Socks- PacSun
Black Doc Martens- Urban Outfitters

I called this outfit "Cakes and Cream" because I was inspired by the print of the Topshop pants. They were high waisted but I wanted them to look like regular leggings, and I wanted to make the outfit simple so the pants would stand out. The cream color of the jumper needed to be incorporated because it contrasted all of the dark blacks in the outfit, and I wanted the vibe of the look to be dainty and sweet. Tea cakes and whipped cream are a delicious combination and remind me of my travels to small tea shops in England where we would sit for a quick cup of tea and the atmosphere was oh-so delightful.

christmas beauty haul!

Happy (Belated) Holidays! I know I have been slightly off-schedule with my blogging, but I hope that everyone had a great holiday and enjoyed their Christmas! This is personally my favorite holiday of the season and I was so lucky to have the chance to spend it with my family and friends. Everyone was so generous and I received many great gifts that I am very excited to use. Though I mainly was gifted clothing (which I will be sure to include in future OOTD's), I wanted to focus this post on the beauty items that were given to me.

My family buys gifts for Christmas at all times during the year, so often I am expecting to get something I picked out long before I actually get it. Many of the beauty gifts I got were things I picked while I was on my summer vacation in Italy, where I discovered a fabulous brand called KIKO Cosmetics. I got four products from this brand-

KIKO Night Balm
KIKO Colour Sphere Duo Eyeshadow in 208
KIKO Pigment Loose Eyeshadow in 02
KIKO Pencil Lip Gloss in 08

They are all beautiful natural, nude shades (except the pigment which is a frosty pink-purple) and have great payoff. I have used KIKO makeup since this past summer, and I am in love with it. It's sad that I am starting to run out of my favorite KIKO products and can't repurchase them, so it was exciting to get this little beauty surprise from Italy. These were actually some of the only beauty products I didn't know I was getting other than the pigment, which my mom picked out for me in the store. (I guess she did some secret shopping on her own!) My favorite of the bunch is the Night Balm, because it is extremely hydrating and moisturizing, but has a delicious vanilla scent. I love putting it on before I go to bed and tasting the warm vanilla on my lips!

Yes To Cucumbers Travel Face Wipes
Kiehl's Lip Balm #1
BareMinerals Flawless Definition Curl and Lengthen Mascara
Origins Beyond the Fringe Mascara & Primer Duo
Revlon Nail Art Neon in Atomic Pink

My grandmother also gave me some lovely beauty gifts that I needed desperately! I was running out of my Lancome Hypnose Star mascara and I was lucky enough to receive two new mascaras this Christmas. I have tried the Origins mascara in the past and it is very good at lengthening, especially when combined with the primer. I am in the process of testing out the BareMinerals mascara and I think it is pretty nice! I'm not crazy about the fact that it has a plastic wand so I may not repurchase it, but it certainly does the job well. The other notable product of this group is the Kiehl's lip balm. This is brand my grandmother is very fond of, but I have personally never tried anything from. I am now very curious to try other products from their line because the lip balm is absolutely phenomenal. It is extremely similar to Vaseline but has a handy squeeze tube and a formula that leaves your lips super soft after just one application.

Cuccio Naturalé Body Butter in Milk & Honey
Pink Tiger Stripe Brush
Real Techniques Core Collection
Victoria's Secret Travel Makeup Brush Set

What would beauty gifts be without makeup brushes? These two brush sets were just what I needed this year! I have been dying to try the Real Techniques brushes (the buffing brush in particular) by Samantha Chapman, and after using them I can proudly say that they are truly worth the hype! For the price point I am extremely impressed with the quality and denseness of these brushes. I have products that never applied as well with other brushes and now I can get much more use out of them! Though VS is not known for its makeup, I think that this travel brush set is actually really good. The brushes are really soft but apply product very well, and the mirror inside the case is also a plus. I look forwards to bringing this on my vacation, as well as the mini tangle teezer-esque brush I got in my stocking!

MAC Cosmetics Nocturnals Lip Gloss Set in Pink

I have always loved MAC lip glosses, and these ones are great. This set comes with four lip glosses in the colors Dressed to Dazzle, Fashion Scoop, Petite Indulgence, and Colour Saturation (L to R). There are three Cremesheen Glasses and one Dazzle Glass, and my favorite of the four has to be Colour Saturation. The name is not so interesting but the color gives the greatest hint of deep red-purple without being too overpowering. I have only tried the Cremesheen Glasses and this formula in the past, but I am very interested to try the Dazzle Glass. It has more of a brush-like applicator than the others which might make more of the sparkles transfer to the lips.

This post has gotten very long, but my last product is a little round makeup bag from Benefit Cosmetics. I am personally obsessed by this! I think it is the most stylish little thing and perfect for storing enough makeup to travel with. I can't wait to get a chance to bring it around with me!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and is enjoying the New Year! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the other christmas gift posts and seeing what beautiful things people got this year. I cannot thank my family enough for all that they have given to me and I am so grateful!

xoxo

fashion & beauty doodles #1!

I have decided to establish a new segment of my blog! Personally, I feel that blogging is more about the writing and photography that composes a blog that makes it unique. However, I also strive to make my blog a place where I can go beyond my abilities, and I wanted to start this as a new feature.

Although I hate to say it, I am someone who is prone to boredom while doing something for a very extensive period of time, e.g. hearing someone lecture to me for hours, and often end up with a paper full of drawings. I do not think that I am the greatest artist in the world (and these new posts are certainly not to show off any type of drawing ability) but I do come across a few of my doodles every once in a while that I am quite impressed with. I only use regular ink pens because I find that they give the finest variety of stroke and pressure. I am in awe of the fact that such an ordinary pen can provide wonderful shades and texture when drawing. (My first doodle has a black background because it didn't have a lot of white space surrounding it and had to be cut strangely on my page.)

I value the skills of artists and am lucky to be surrounded by many people in my life that have extraordinary abilities in the field. I pursue photography (which is my stronger artistic work), but am constantly trying to strengthen my drawing skills. I thought I would post a few of my recent beauty doodles and make this a (somewhat) regular post, to break up a lot of reading and photography. I hope you like them!

ootd: sweater (dress) weather

It's really getting chilly outside! As we are truly breaching the winter months on the East Coast, I have found the time to purchase myself a turtleneck sweater dress! I think that this is an essential for one's wardrobe and I cannot emphasize how much I am in love with it! I decided I had to share with you all so I put together a small outfit that is not too casual, yet not too fancy at the same time.

Gray Knitted Sweater Dress- ASOS
Black Tights- Unknown
Black Socks- Urban Outfitters
Black Doc Martens- Urban Outfitters

Though the quality and lighting of these photos are not the best, but they still do the dress justice! I wish I could show you all the dress in person (though I sadly can not) because there are smaller details knitted in the dress fabric, like the tighter hem at the bottom, that really make it beautiful. My favorite part are the soft leather arm patches on the lower portions of the sleeves. Sweater dresses are totally appropriate for the winter time, keep you warm, and look fabulous! My Docs matched great and ensured that it wouldn't seem to fancy. I also added boot socks at the ankle to keep my feet warm (this is an upcoming trend I will have to post about!!).

I hope everyone is having a great New Year and stays bundled up!

new year's resolutions!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I know I have not been posting as frequently as usual, but I have just finished my winter vacation and I am ready to get back into my blogging. I just wanted to make a quick post so I that I could share my New Year's resolutions with all of you!

Resolution #1: Eat Healthier
I do not think that I am unhealthy, I just have a very bland palette and am not always open to trying new things. I want to detox my body of bad food and start expanding my horizons! I have seen how much a body can change for the better from just making your diet cleaner, and I hope to do that! I want to eat new things, be stronger and feel like I am in better shape.

Resolution #2: Be More Thoughtful When Buying Makeup
I will confess that I do own a lot more makeup than the average girl. There are so many products on the market in cosmetics that I am dying to try, but I think I should cut back just a little on my beauty product spending. Of course I am still going to buy new makeup (to use and to review on my blog), but I want to reduce my spending on drugstore products and try to buy the more expensive things that I really want. Basically, I am striving for the mindset of quality over quantity.

Resolution #3: Go Out Of My Fashion Comfort Zone
I have been working on this for a while now, and I think that it is working! I always try to go out of my comfort zone when it comes to fashion, but I seem to always put together the same sort of style. I want to explore different styles of outfitting and try to incorporate more color into my wardrobe.

Resolution #4: Post More!
I sometimes feel like I am letting all of my followers down when I don't post for a while! I have quite a hectic life but it is very important for me to be able to post. I like using this blog as an outlet for my thoughts on fashion and beauty and I love sharing them with you all the most! I am trying my best to stick to my original blog schedule and have a large queue of posts to put up soon (including my well overdue Christmas haul)!

Resolution #5: Be The Best I Can Be
This is one of my resolutions every single year. It is so important to push yourself to be the best you can be because you realize that you can do so much more than you ever believed! Always take a moment to be proud of all of your accomplishments in life and reflect back on all of the things you love- there is never a time that you can't be better than your best!
